Disk Drives for the AudioBox

General Requirements:

For use in the AudioBox Disk Playback Matrix Mixer, a disk drive must conform to the following general requirements:

• 3.5" disk form factor
• SCSI-2 or Ultra SCSI interface (LID drives require special installation, see Internal Disk Drive section of user's manual)
• 50-pin interface (preferred) or 68-pin interface with a 50-pin adaptor (see Internal Disk Drive section of user's manual)
• Average seek time 10 ms or less
• Maximum 5V current: 1000mA
• Maximum 12V current: 2500mA (maximum current is usually start-up current)

The AudioBox Hard Drives page on the Richmond Sound Design web site contains the latest information on recommended disk drives for the AudioBox.

Audio Capacity:

The AudioBox plays audio tracks at 48,000 16-bit samples per second. Therefore, the disk storage space required for audio files is 96000 bytes per second per monaural track, or 5.76 megabytes per minute.
